Accountability Overview

Rhode Island’s accountability system provides a holistic review of school performance by looking at multiple measures – like test scores, graduation rates, and chronic absenteeism. Using this information, RIDE gives each public school a star rating from 1 to 5. These star ratings give school communities and families a clear, simple way to understand overall school performance.

While RIDE does not assign star ratings to Local Education Agencies (LEAs, also known as districts), RIDE calculates the same accountability measures for LEAs as it does for schools. This allows LEA leaders and communities to understand performance at the LEA level and identify system-wide strengths and opportunities for improvement that impact multiple schools.

Use the 'Explore State Accountability Data' button to view interactive dashboards displaying star ratings and accountability measure performance across all Rhode Island schools.
